Transportation

The Tube is the fastest way to get around London. It runs from approximately 5am to midnight (later on Fridays/Saturdays on some lines).

Payment: Use contactless bank card or Oyster card. Never buy paper tickets — they cost double. Daily caps apply automatically (Zone 1-2: ~£8.10/day).

Tips: Avoid rush hours (7:30-9:30am, 5-7pm). Stand on the right on escalators. Mind the gap between train and platform.

Step-free access: Check the TfL website for step-free stations if you have pushchairs or mobility needs.

Buses: Great for sightseeing (especially routes 11 and 24). Contactless/Oyster only — no cash. £1.75 per ride, daily cap £5.25.

Black cabs: Iconic London taxis. Metered fares, can be hailed on the street. Reliable but expensive (£15-30 for central trips).

Uber/Bolt: Widely available and usually cheaper than black cabs. Download the apps before arriving.

Airport transfers: Heathrow Express to Paddington (15 min, £25). Gatwick Express to Victoria (30 min, £20). Or take the Tube from Heathrow for £5.50.
